For more than 40 years, Capricorn Equestrian Center has shared with the community our passion for horses by providing a safe and fun environment for learning. Capricorn strives to help students become confident, well-rounded riders by emphasizing safety in all of our instruction. At Capricorn, there is no limit to how much you can learn. Our full-service equine education facility features well-trained schooling horses and employs an energetic and knowledgeable staff dedicated to helping you reach your horseback riding goals. For your convenience, we provide the necessary riding equipment including saddles, blankets, bridles, riding helmets, and grooming tools. Our year-round equine programs include day and evening classes for children and adults, day camps, clinics, parties, and more.
Facilities
Capricorn Equestrian Center features a 21,000 sq. ft barn with a
15,000 sq.ft. indoor arena for year-round riding. In addition, our facility includes a round pen. We are located on 10 acres in Nevada just north of Lavon.
Horses
Capricorn has a horse for everyone―whether you're a beginner or a seasoned rider. Our horses are carefully evaluated based on temperament before being accepted into the school and are uniquely trained to provide students with maximum learning benefits in a safe manner. School horses range in age from 5 to 30 and are primarily quarter horses.
Staff
Capricorn's staff consists of longtime students who transitioned to instructors. This brings a unique element to their teaching because they've been through the same process as their students. Our instructors continue to expand on their knowledge and many now ride, train, and show their own horses.
Equipment
Capricorn provides western tack for students to use during lessons including saddles, saddle pads, bridles, and grooming tools. Riding helmets are mandatory for students under the age of 18 so helmets are furnished. (Adult students who choose not to wear a helmet do so at their own risk.) It is requested that students wear long pants and hard soled shoes or boots for riding. For safety reasons, sandals or other open toed footwear is not be permitted in the barn area.
Ownership
Capricorn Equestrian has been owned and operated by the Easterling family since 1976. Chad Easterling took over ownership of Capricorn from his mother, founder Pat Easterling in 1993. Chad has a degree in Equine Sciences from North Central Texas College and is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Appaloosa Horse Club, the National Foundation Quarter Horse Association, and the National Reining Horse Association. In addition, Capricorn is a member of the Sachse Chamber of Commerce and provides lessons through area recreation centers.
